The record-breaking month beat out July 2015, which saw the casinos bring in $98.95 million in revenue. The mark shows a year-over-year increase from April 2015 of 16.8 percent for all five casinos, or more than $14.9 million, the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Agency announced Thursday.
All five casinos showed growth year-over-year, but Horseshoe Casino Baltimore by far had the biggest improvement from April 2015. The casino generated a record $30.2 million this April, a 31.9 percent increase from the previous year.
Although a 24-hour operation, Horseshoe closed at 9 p.m. for the last few days of April and the first couple of days in May last year following the unrest in the wake of the death of Freddie Gray.
"Our April revenues represent a high point in what has been an ongoing trend of strong year-over-year growth resulting from innovative marketing and promotions initiatives as well as a comprehensive mix of best-in-class entertainment offerings," Erin Chamberlin, Horseshoe general manager and senior vice president, said in a statement.
The state's largest casino, Maryland Live Casino in Hanover, led the way in terms of total revenue brought in with $57.8 million. That marks an increase of $6.8 million from a year ago, or 13.4 percent.
Casino at Oceans Downs reported a 8.9 percent year-over-year increase to $4.7 million. Rocky Gap Casino Resort, located in Cumberland, generated $4.2 million last month, a 6.1 percent increase over April 2015. And Hollywood Casino Perryville saw a 2 percent rise from last year to $7 million in revenue.
