Goa Chief Minister compares offshore casinos to “marrying a pregnant woman”
While saying that he was forced to deal with the issue of offshore casinos, which were “Congress' baby”, Parsekar said, “Someone had said I was compelled to marry a pregnant woman. What to do. So, naturally, I am forced to take care of her children.”
“They (Congress) created this mess and now they are criticizing our government. You should recall who was in the power from 1994 to 1999...We were not the part of the government then,” Parsekar said, reacting to Goa Congress chief Luzinho Faleiro's comment that Goa is now “sin city.”
A nasty exchange of words is not new among Indian politicians, nor is misogyny. But comparing something one considers a sin to a pregnant woman and her children is an all-new low.
Members of the women's wing of the Goa Congress have asked Parsekar to apologize immediately. “Didn't the CM get any other example? How can gambling business like casinos be compared to being a mother. The statement is humiliating and not fit from a person holding coveted post,” spokesperson Pratima Coutinho said.
