New Jersey breaks online gambling record with help from launch of PokerStars

The year-over-year increase ends a long period of decline and stagnation for the state’s online poker market.

If you add in the other authorized online casino games, Internet gaming win was $15,507,459 in March compared to $13,165,623 in the same month a year prior, reflecting an increase of 17.8 percent. That’s the most in overall I-gaming win the state has seen since the games first debuted in late 2013.

New Jersey Internet gaming win was roughly $14.7 million in February. Through the first three months of 2016, online gambling win was up 27.7 percent to $44,887,151. Peer-to-peer poker play was $6,606,361, up 0.5 percent year-over-year.

PokerStars launched its core product, along with a handful of other casino games, in New Jersey on Mar. 21. The platform partnered with Resorts casino.

Resorts Digital had online gaming win of $1,878,097 this March, compared to just $154,071 in March 2015.

Borgata ($4,226,855), Tropicana ($3,169,063), Caesars Interactive NJ ($3,163,357) and Golden Nugget ($3,070,087) all saw year-over-year gains in March as well.

After just one week in New Jersey, PokerStars was the most-played regulated online poker site in the state in terms of cash game players.

New Jersey is one of three states in America with regulated online casino games. It controls more than 90 percent of that market in the United States.
