A ground-breaking ceremony will be held for Belleville’s new casino on April, but the exact date hasn't been released.

Shorelines Casino will be owned by British Columbia-based Great Canadian Gaming Corporation and managed by Ontario Gaming East. Ltd.

It will also fall under the regulation of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. The Ontario Gaming East Ltd. Partnership will be hosting a ceremony that day at 10:30 a.m. at the site at 330 Bell Blvd. A reception will follow at the Fairfield Inn & Suites, at 407 North Front St.

On January 25, Belleville city council voted to enter into an agreement with OLG to prepare the construction of the casino. The casino will be about 48,000 square feet and is expected to employ about 300 people.

It will also bring a new revenue stream to the city, as OLG regulations dictate that 5.25% of the first $65 million casinos generates from electronic games go back to the community, to be spent on projects decided on by city council.

Four percent of revenue from table games are also supposed to go back into the community.
