We sat down with Patti Doyle, spokeswoman for Twin River Management Group, to discuss company's project to build a 85,000-square-foot casino hotel complex in Tiverton, Rhode Island.

Doyle said that even though the General Assembly passed the Tiverton Casino bill last Thursday and the Governor signed it on Firday, this is not the first attempt to build a casino in the state. In 2012, the General Assembly supported placing on that year's ballot the Newport Grand Casino expansion, but the voters of Newport rejected it. Now, Twin River Management Group is seeking to build a 85,000-square-foot casino hotel complex.

There can be no additional casinos in Rhode Island per our state constitution. So, if Tiverton passes, Newport Grand would close the day the Tiverton casino opens

The proposal has faced strong oppostition, from religious groups to politicians. Tiverton Town Councilman, Brett Pelletier, for instance, questioned whether a casino is a sustainable economic engine given the increased competition. What are your toughts on this concern?

Twin River generates approximately USD 300M annually in revenue for the state of Rhode Island, making it the state's third largest source of revenue. It employs nearly 2000 employees. There can be no question that it is an important economic generator for the state.

Locally, in Lincoln it contributes more than USD 10M annually to the town of Lincoln, it's host community. It is projected to contribute USD 4M annually to the town of Tiverton if the ballot measure prevails.

How long will it take for this to become a reality?

The question is now in the hands of the general public who will vote in November of 2016. At issue will be the continuation of this critical revenue stream, and the preservation of these important jobs.

Twin River Management Group's new facility would generate even more money for the state, especially if Massachusetts developers back off on proposed casinos approved for Taunton and Brockton. Why is Tiverton the perfect spot?

The Tiverton location has easy access from the highway, centrally located in a potential market area of more than 80,000 prospective customers, remote from most of the more populated area of Tiverton, 400 feet from the Massachusetts border.

There can be no additional casinos in RI per our state constitution. So, if Tiverton passes, Newport Grand would close the day the Tiverton casino opens. Constitutionally, the state is restricted to two gaming venues.
