The opening of the Casino Malta in December last year is expected to raise competition within the local gaming market, which in turn could boost the activity.

The casino opened by estonian operator Olympic Entertainment Group (OEG), should attract many more players and thus, allow to a more ferocious competition between the casinos already present.

A harder competition could be excellent news for the gambling lovers, requiring the casinos to stand out from others in terms of offers, services, entertainment and games. In this case, the other three casinos in Malta will have a big challenge, competing against the biggest gambling venue in the island.

The Casino Malta possesses serious arguments to draw players in, such as an ideal location close to the sea. Having been licensed by the Malta Gaming Authority, the facility required an investment of over USD 13M.

Located at the Intercontinental Hotel, the new casino is also part of a €31m revamp of the hotel scheduled to reopen in April with two new floors of 6-star suites, a 100-room Holiday Inn Express hotel, and improvements of meeting and conference spaces. Close to 2,700 sqm, the gaming floor was opened with 250 slot machines and 30 gaming tables, as well as sport betting and bar area.

Other gaming venues like Dragonara Casino and CasinosAvenue will certainly have to stand out in order to be a competition against the largest slots and table games mix on the island, which aims to significantly raise the bar for land-based gaming in the whole country.
