A pair of former gambling industry executives and the owner of a conference center hope to convince Decatur officials to back their plan to open a casino in the city.

Former Argosy Gaming Co. executives Jeff Roberts and Joseph Uram and Decatur Conference Center & Hotel owner Steve Horve would need state legislation to allow a casino to open in Decatur.

Horve said that Roberts and Uram would open the casino in his conference center’s atrium. He said it would include 400 to 600 games and employ as many as 200 people.

Decatur was part of discussions last year about gambling expansion in Illinois.

City Manager Tim Gleason said the Decatur council could discuss the casino plan later this month or next.
