Coral Sea Resort & Casino officially opened its doors this month on Honiara in the Solomon Islands with an official launch ceremony taking place on December 5.

The new facility brings resort-style gaming to the islands’ capital for the first time and encapsulates the exotic surrounding of its South Pacific coastline.

Opening festivities will include the ribbon cutting ceremony and outdoor concert with British singer Craig David among the notable guests. Attendees of the opening event will also be able to see Jamaican reggae artist Conkarah and DJ Tuff Tumas from Vanuatu, as well as local performances from Jeeno, Jahboy and the Unique and OutKast dance crews.

The resort is set to boost casino gaming in the seaport capital, which is located on the northern coast of Guadalcanal, one of several islands in the self-governed archipelago. It will join several casinos on the islands, all are located in the primary tourism hotspots, and licensed under the Gaming and Lotteries Act that passed more than half a decade ago.

Set to complete in three stages, phase one includes two state-of-the-art gaming floors that feature a total of 64 slot machines, as well as Baccarat, Blackjack, Roulette and Pacific Poker tables, and the casino charges a $20 entry fee. The first phase also features the Red Koi VIP room, a steakhouse, bar and the Coral Sea Resort Water Salon, a luxury swimming pool area.

Details of the next stages of the project haven’t been released, although phase two is expected to launch late in 2016. The architects behind the facility noted that it had been designed to resemble the surrounding area and exotic Pacific atmospheres in which it is located.
