Richard Johnson – runner-up to AP McCoy an astonishing 16 times in the British Jump Jockeys’ Championship – has signed a deal to become a brand ambassador for leading online sportsbook Betway for the 2015/16 National Hunt season.

The 38-year-old jockey has ridden nearly 2900 winners in his career and is currently 1/12 with Betway to be crowned champion jockey in April.

He will provide twice weekly blogs on Betway Insider, giving his exclusive thoughts on his rides and other high profile horses and races, as well as daily blogs during the Cheltenham and Grand National Festivals.

In addition, he will promote his blog via social media and appear at Betway-sponsored racedays.

Betway’s Alan Alger said: “Richard Johnson has had an incredible career and everyone within racing truly hopes that he wins his first Jockeys’ Championship in April.

“He’s made a great start and we’re looking forward to providing our customers with exclusive insight into his rides. His blog is going to be a must-read for any racing fan.”

Richard Johnson added: “I’m really excited to be working with Betway in what is already an unusual season, with my good friend AP McCoy having finally retired!

“This is the first regular blog I’ve done and I certainly won’t be holding back. I’ll be giving Betway’s customers my honest views about my chances, as well as thoughts on other horses and big races.

“I’ve always started every season with the aim to be champion jockey and let’s hope I can achieve it this time.”

Betway have an extensive team of top brand ambassadors across different sports, including Mike Tindall for rugby union, Simon Hughes, AKA The Analyst, for cricket and Sky Sports’ Sarah Stirk for golf.
