The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) in Washington, D.C. is moving forward on a Notice of Intent for a proposed casino for Muskegon County.

The BIA published a Notice of Intent for an environmental review to place the land in Fruitport Township in trust for gaming purposes. A public hearing will be held on October 15th at the Fruitport Middle School at 6:00pm for community input.

According to the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, Muskegon County is home to the tribe’s largest population base.

The proposed casino would include 69,000 square feet of gaming floor space, 1,700 slot machines, 35 table games and a 220-room hotel. There would also be dining and entertainment options, as well as conference facilities. The casino would be located at the former Great Lakes Downs site.
