The new casino outside Lander will feature a 500-slot gaming floor, table games and a 61-room hotel. The project will also add an additional cafe and outdoor dining.
“It’s going to be a beautiful building,” said general manager Robert Pokorney. "I don’t know when the last private $30 million construction project was done in Fremont County.”
The expansion project was approved in December 2014. Last week, officials held a groundbreaking ceremony.
The existing casino holds 325 slot games and lacks a hotel. The building will be used for office, meeting and storage space once the expansion project is complete.
Pokorney anticipates the construction to be finished by late summer or early fall 2016. The next big milestone for the casino will be around Thanksgiving, when Pokorney expects the foundation and concrete to be poured so construction crews can work on the inside during the winter.
“It’s going to have a big effect on Fremont County. Already we’ve got three major local contractors out working on the site,” Pokorney said. “We’ll have up to 90 construction jobs for the next year. The casino is going to add 50 new positions. It’s a pretty important economic development project for Fremont County.”
Pokorney is excited for the new casino, hoping that it will attract a wider range of clientele with the option of overnight stays.
“We’re a little too far away for a day trip from Casper, and some other important markets like Rock Springs, even Salt Lake City,” Pokorney said. “With our hotel, now our gaming customers will be able to come and stay.”
