Ireland’s gambling authority has issued 27 online sports betting licences to its newly regulated remote betting market.
The licences have been granted for a period of two years to the likes of bet365, William Hill and Paddy Power and allow i-gaming and sports betting provisions to be serviced and marketed to Irish consumers.
Under the new regulations set out in the act, online casino, gaming and bingo services in Ireland will face a one per cent tax on gross gaming revenue with online sports betting operations being charged at a 15 per cent net revenue rate.
The new framework is expected to introduce a specific Irish Gambling Control Bill by 2016, which will see the introduction of a specialised gambling regulator.
