According to statistics from the Fantasy Sports Trade Association, DFS players are spending more this year and now deposit on average USD 465 annually. Reports also estimated that the number of fantasy sports players has grown from 12.6 million to 56.8 million in the last 10 years. How do you explain the growth of DFS?
Even though US regulation scheme towards online gambling is affecting those numbers in some way, there is no doubt that people love playing DFS.
Not only are DFS games extremely fun to play and make the games much more exciting, but they also give talented players a great opportunity to become profitable. We feel it is similar to what poker was a a decade ago.
While the enthusiasm for traditional sports betting is all about winning money, DFS is more about about skill, competition and interactivity with your peers. Above all, it is fun
Unlike the majority of fantasy sites outside the United States, Fanaments went live with sports including NBA basketball, Ultimate Fighting Championship mixed martial arts and PGA golf. Why did you decide to expand your product offering?
Even though most events in those leagues are played in the US, the audience for those leagues is worldwide. The best athletes from all around the world are competing in the NBA, PGA and UFC.
Those leagues are aired around the world, so it makes perfect sense to offer games for these leagues as well. Our aim is to have games going everyday, not only during the weekend when most football leagues are played.
In Pennsylvania, state Rep. George Dunbar has launched House Bill 1197 proposing the legalization of DFS in all state-licensed land casinos. Is this an effective way to attract young audiences?
I think DFS is more suited to online gaming. First of all, it gives greater room for scalability and also DFS is a game where players heavily rely on data analysis (some more than other) and that is just not as convenient with a pen and paper. I feel it would be hard to replicate the success for land based casinos in the US.
What are the company's future plans?
We will be targeting different areas around Europe and other exciting areas. We will expand slowly but surely for the coming months and keep improving our games and adding new sports and leagues.
How do you see the DFS sector developing in the next years?
It can only go up. The vibe around DFS in Europe has magnified enormously these last months. There will be major DFS operators in Europe in a year or two. I am certain of it, it is only a matter of who comes up on top.
