Nektan said Friday that it has become one of the first operators to be granted a remote betting intermediary license for the Irish market.

The company said that it had successfully gained approval for the license, in accordance with new regulations which came into effect on August 1st.

“We are pleased that Nektan is among the very first operators to have gained approval for a gaming license in Ireland. This builds on the company's momentum within the Irish market in recent months, having welcomed Independent News & Media and TV3 as new live partners onto our gaming network. We will continue to seek further opportunities in Ireland as part of our ongoing growth strategy,” said Nektan CEO David Gosen.

Ireland’s Betting (Amendment) Act 2015 was signed into earlier this year in March, updating and extending the country’s regulatory regime in relation to bookmakers licenses, as provided for in the Betting Act 1931, to include remote betting operators who accept bets from Irish customers.

All remote bookmaker’s and remote betting intermediaries providing betting services to customers in Ireland will be required to hold a license to provide such services.

Shares in Nektan plc were trading at 140.00 pence per share in London this morning following the announcement.
