Online gaming operator bwin.party has announced that it is to close its WPTpoker.com internet poker operations in order to focus on its PartyPoker and bwin poker brands.

The operator noted in an FAQ notification to customers that there are no plans to re-open WPTpoker.com at a later date, although players will be able to withdraw any remaining funds from their account for the next three months.

In an email to customers, the operator said: “Bwin.party has made the decision to focus our online poker efforts entirely on our lead brands: partypoker and bwin poker. This has resulted in the decision to close our WPTPoker.com site.

“Please be aware that we are unable to move any balance directly from a WPTPoker.com account to a partypoker.com account.

“The poker room will cease to run from June 3 however players will have a further three months to withdraw their cash balance. During this period we will remove withdrawal limits. The fee will not be waived.

“We understand the frustration and apologise for the inconvenience.”

News of the closure comes at an uncertain time for bwin.party, with the brand currently the subject of a bidding war between major gaming companies.

GVC Holdings has teamed up with Amaya Gaming in an effort to take over the firm, while 888 has also lodged a reverse takeover bid.

Bwin.party also recently revealed year-on-year revenue losses for the opening three months of the year, with some analysts suggesting that the closure of the WPTPoker.com brand may be an effort to help cut losses.
