As MGM Springfield’s construction inches closer to a completion date, we now have a clearer picture of how their hiring process is expected to proceed.

In Monday night’s Springfield City Council meeting, representatives from MGM Springfield said that they plan to have hiring in full swing about five months before the expected October 2017 opening date. They also said they plan to partner with local community colleges to put formalized training programs in place for the positions they are looking to fill.

The casino company says they will soon be holding informational sessions for anyone interested trying for a job at the completed resort. More than 730 of the jobs they will be looking to fill will be in the food and beverage industry. There will also be jobs in sales, hospitality, IT, administration, and human resources.

MGM’s says that many of these positions will require criminal background checks; something some city councilors said they fear could stand in the way of getting people hired.

MGM Springfield said they are currently working with lawyers and organizations to help find solutions to those concerns.
