New Orleans City Council, at its April 9th meeting, moved to adopt Ordinance Calendar No. 30,619 which redefines casinos under the Smoke Free Air Act.

The changes mean that any facility that operates slots, pari-mutuel wagering and off-track wagering are added to the definition of "casinos".

Casinos will only be allowed to permit smoking in designated outdoor areas under the act which goes into effect on April 22, 2015.

Previously Harrah's had requested a delay to the introduction of the Smoke Free Air Act, but this was denied according to various media reports.
