(US).- Las Vegas Sands is getting a new president for its Strip resorts in Las Vegas, effective March 17. George Markantonis will replace John Caparella, who’s been president of the Venetian and Palazzo since 2011.

George Markantonis worked for the Westin hotel chain for 16 years, was senior vice president of hotel operations at Caesars Palace, and most recently led the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. He was once vice president of rooms and, later on, senior vice president of hotel operations at Caesars Palace.

John Caparella, who’s been president of the Venetian and Palazzo since 2011, is departing next month, Sands confirmed today.

Sands spokesman Ron Reese said Caparella is “leaving to pursue new career opportunities,” but he wouldn’t elaborate.

The Sands parent company, headed by billionaire Sheldon Adelson, also controls properties in Pennsylvania, Macau and Singapore.
