(US).- The Poker Players Alliance (PPA), poker grassroots advocacy group with more than one million members nationwide, is a sponsor of the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) today through Saturday at the Gaylord National Harbor Resort outside of Washington, D.C.

Casino magnate and political donor Sheldon Adelson has pledged to “spend whatever it takes” to outlaw Internet poker and other forms of online wagering, including online lotteries. His contributions are beginning to pay off. Recently, Representative Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) introduced legislation to ban state legislatures from authorizing and regulating Internet poker and other forms of Internet betting across the U.S.

“Any attempt to strip states of their 10thAmendment right to regulate online poker sites within their own borders  illustrates how crony capitalism threatens the integrity of our nation’s political system,” said John Pappas, executive director of the PPA. “Our goal at CPAC is to shed light on why imposing a federal ban on online gambling is not only bad policy for American consumers, it also completely undermines the critical rights of states to govern within their own borders as they see fit.”

On Thursday at 2:10 pm, Pappas will offer his insight on the proposed online gambling ban and its impact on states’ rights during a debate entitled, “Full House: Whose Got the Winning Hand?” Andy Abboud of the Venetian Resort and Hotel Casino and vocal supporter of the online gambling ban has also been invited to participate.

In addition to the debate, PPA is hosting the CPAC Welcome Party entitled, “Pose with Your Priorities” on Thursday evening. Open to all CPAC attendees, the party will offer an opportunity for participants to pose for a photo with their top priority for the 114th Congress or enjoy a hand of poker.
