Florida attorney general files charges in betting ring case

(US).- The Florida Attorney General charged eight men with conducting illegal online sports betting in Broward County. The leader of the ring handed over cash payments at local spots including the Isle Casino in Pompano Beach after setting up online accounts for users who could bet through off-shore sites.

Eight Broward County men were charged for their involvement in an illegal Internet sports gambling scheme Friday by Attorney General Pam Bondi's Office of Statewide Prosecution.

The investigation, which resulted in the charges, was conducted in conjunction with the Broward Sheriff's Office's Organized Crime Unit.

Margate resident Allan Klein, 71; Coral Springs resident Darren Klein, 36; Parkland resident Erik Bishop, 35; West Palm Beach resident Patsy Capolongo, 65; Pompano Beach resident Michael Dangelo, 58; and Boca Raton residents Thomas Cuce, 32; Joseph Petrolino, 47; and Devon Shaimi, 30, have all been charged in connection with the gambling ring that ran from at least August 2013 through February 2015.
