First stop late Wednesday morning will be in the city of Schenectady, where the Rivers Casino & Resort at Mohawk Harbor has been approved. He'll next head to the Catskills, where the Montreign Resort Casino has been given the go-ahead for its project in the Sullivan County town of Thompson. Cuomo will meet local officials at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in the neighboring town of Bethel.
Cuomo's last stop will be in Seneca County, where the Lago Resort & Casino in the town of Tyre has been approved. The Gaming Facility Location Board also decided not to recommend a possible fourth license amid an increasingly saturated gambling market in which consumers have more and more options closer to home.
While casinos were once limited to Las Vegas, Atlantic City and a handful of tribal reservations, they have now opened in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Rhode Island and several other states, and most Americans are within a few hours' drive of a gambling facility.
