StadiumLIVE allows football stadiums in the UK to offer fans access to hi-density Wi-Fi throughout the venue.
Celtic became the first team to integrate the system into its Celtic Park stadium in September 2013 under a partnership with Sports Revolution that saw the agency develop a CelticLIVE fan app to allow visitors the stadium to access Wi-Fi.
Although Sports Revolution had previously blocked access to betting websites via the app, it has responded to user demand by agreeing a deal with Unibet to open up a new in-play, in-venue betting service. Unibet will offer a range of odds to supporters through the CelticLIVE app including in-play odds linked to live events such as next scorer and result predictions.
“Stadium Wi-Fi has huge potential for commercial partners to offer services that enhance the matchday experience for fans,” Sports Revolution commercial director Simon Hills said.
“Betting is a perfect fit, especially as in-play odds complement the real-time content we are serving fans through the app. We know that many fans want to use the Wi-Fi for betting, and now they can.”
Ed Nicholson, head of Unibet’s marketing operations in the UK, added: “We are excited by the potential of stadium Wi-Fi for matchday betting, allowing us to add a new dimension for fans.Live betting is the future of online sports betting, and stadium Wi-Fi is a perfect way to fuel that demand and for us to make a mark. We expect it to take off with other clubs and wanted to get in early with this first application at the UK’s first fully connected stadium, Celtic Park.”
