Janine Roth, IGT Vice President Latin America, shared some ideas about pursuing goals and leaving the comfort zone. She started her career as a cellist. She assisted to one of the best schools of music and had to improve her self-esteem to set higher goals for herself. “I suffered a lot during the first two years of study because there were many other musicians that were better than me,” she said. She then used to play in an orchestra in Vienna, Austria.
When she decided to change her career, she used the discipline she learned in music for her new university career: Computer Sciences.
Seven years ago, she was President at a technology company in California. The company started having financial problems due to the economic situation and she met Patty Hart (IGT CEO), who gave her good advice which helped her overcome the crisis. Two years ago, she gave her the chance to enter IGT.
“Believe in your own excellence and take risks”
“When I worked at a mobile communications company, I asked my boss why there were no women in overseas roles. He told me that women did not want to take that sort of role and I said that I wanted to do it. So he assigned me an international role in France. Then, my boss told me that he acknowledged that women were better at those roles because they adapted better to other cultures.”
Balance between work and personal life
Finally, she gave women an advice: “Take good care of yourselves and have a supportive environment.”
