(Germany).- A number of leading European betting companies have collaborated to form the German Sports Betting Association, to encourage the implementation of “legally stable sports betting regulation” in the country, whilst acting against “game manipulation, gambling addiction and black markets.

The association’s 11 founding members are Admiral Sportwetten, Betfair, BetterBet, Cashpoint, Deutsche Sportwetten, Hillside (New Media), Ladbrokes, Mybet, Stanleybet, Tipico and World of Sportsbetting.

BetterBet chief executive Mathias Dahms, the president of the organisation, described the current legal uncertainty in the German betting market as “untenable”.“Our goal is to remove the legal uncertainty and to ensure safe betting, both for consumers and providers,” he said.

Peter Ramsauer, chairman of the Committee on Economics and Energy Affairs in the German Bundestag, the country’s legislative body, welcomed the creation of the organisation. “This association is an enrichment and a strong ally in the war against illegal gambling and addiction,” Ramsauer said.

The award of sports betting licences in the German state of Hesse stalled earlier this month after the Wiesbaden Administrative Court suspended the process following complaints from a number of operators that had been unsuccessful in their initial applications.
