(South Africa).- Rob Davis, Trade and Industry Minister, announced that the country’s National Gambling Board will be suspended immediately pending the outcome of a forensic investigation.

According to the Ewn.co.za website, the Trade and Industry Department has confirmed that the board was temporarily suspended earlier this month for reasons that still remain unclear. The Department also said it has been unwilling to clarify this as it could be held against it in an upcoming court case.

SilwellMedupe, a spokesperson for the Department, said that two administrators will tasked with running the Board until the matter is resolved.

In a statement, Medupe said: “The forensic investigation will mainly cover the assets of the National Gambling Board and the minister has also appointed two administrators to oversee the day to day assess of the National Gambling Board. “We are unable to say how long this will take.”
