(Ireland).- Nelson McCausland, Northern Ireland Social Development Minister, has almost certainly said that the self-governing country will not consider changing the laws regarding casinos.UK operator Rank Group is losing hope of eventually constructing a casino in the country.

McCausland said “that he felt there was simply no appetite for casinos in Northern Ireland and he was surprised that the company had not made its plans clear last year, when an in-depth review of local gambling laws took place.”

“I’m not quite sure what their thinking is, but it was surprising that they didn’t contribute to the discussion,”McCausland said.

“It’s a bit late now in the day to come along because we are about to take a package of proposals to the executive and to the assembly and I want to go to the assembly with the changes in the gambling legislation next year.” The minister added that Rank had made no contact with his department.

The country is looking to update their current gambling laws and Rank who run Grosvenor Casinos was hoping that the time was right for discussions into a casino, however it is now clear that the government will look at only protecting the young from the dangers of gambling along with enforcing more controls on social responsibility.
