Before the two-month winning streak, Presque Isle Downs had experienced 26 straight months of month-over-month declines in revenue from table games. "It's not a long-term trend, but in the short term, it's a bit of a trend," said Richard McGarvey, spokesman for the gaming board.
Jeff Favre, the casino's general manager, said, "We're pleased with back-to-back revenue (increases)." Asked why revenue might be trending upward, he cited increased marketing efforts to attract table games players and the fact that month-over-month projections are more of an "apples to apples" comparison. That means no casinos have opened in the Erie regional market recently.
The newest casinos in the market include: Hard Rock Northfield Park Rocksino in Northfield, Ohio, which opened in December; Thistledown Racino in North Randall, Ohio, which opened in April 2013; and Horseshoe Casino Cleveland, which opened in May 2012.
In August, the local share of revenue from table games at Presque Isle Downs was $23,533, raising the total to $1,425,703 since the casino started offering table games in July 2010. The money is being used for economic development.
For all 12 casinos in Pennsylvania, August's revenue of $66.4 million represented an increase of 4.6 percent over August 2013.
