(Sweden).- Swedish gaming operator Cherry has cited the success of its online gaming division as the driver of a jump in revenue over the six months through to June 30, 2014. Group turnover for the first half of 2014 amounted to 16.3 M euros, which is 23 percent higher than the USD 17.4 M achieved in the corresponding period last year.

Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) for the period amounted to a loss of SEK8.4 million, which is a more positive result than the loss of SEK8.9 million in the first half of 2013. Elsewhere, earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) improved from a loss of SEK10.9 million last year to a negative of SEK7.7 million this year.

Cherry highlighted online gaming as the main reason for growth during the six months, after the division generated SEK79.7 million in revenue, up from SEK56.8 million last year. During the second quarter, Cherry generated SEK76.4 million in revenue, which represented a significant increase on the SEK61.6 million achieved in the same period last year.

EBITDA also improved from a loss of SEK9.2 million last year to a negative result of SEK4.1 million in the most recent quarter.

Emil Sunvisson, chief executive officer of Cherry, said: “It has been a very positive first six months of 2014 and we can conclude that all business areas set new sales records. “Online gaming continues to grow faster than the market and Yggdrasil has signed a number of new contracts. “Cherry’s journey as a fast-growing online company continues.”
