Racetrack casino gambling measure headed for ballot box this November
(US).- A measure proposing to legalize casino gambling at the Arapahoe Park racetrack in Aurora received the green light Monday from Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler to appear on the November ballot.

(US).- A measure proposing to legalize casino gambling at the Arapahoe Park racetrack in Aurora received the green light Monday from Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler to appear on the November ballot.
Based on a random sample of the 136,800 signatures that were submitted two weeks ago, Gessler deemed the measure as "sufficient" with a projected 102,180 valid signatures. Citizen initiatives are required to have 86,105 qualified signatures to be included on the ballot. The measure will appear as Amendment 68.
It will ask voters to authorize limited-stakes gaming at horse racetracks in Arapahoe, Mesa and Pueblo counties. Currently, Arapahoe Park is the only horse racetrack in operation in those counties.
Thirty-four percent of revenue from slots and table games at the so-called "racinos" would go toward K-12 education. Rhode Island-based Twin River Casino, which owns Arapahoe Park, is the chief backer of Amendment 68.
