(Netherlands).- The Dutch national lottery is set to become a sponsor of Team Belkin in a move that will help the UCI World Tour cycling squad secure its long-term future. The Lotto will be joined by retail company Brand Loyalty as a sponsor of the team.

The Lotto will reportedly assume the majority of the funding needed for the team for the 2015 season, with BrandLoyalty serving as a secondary sponsor.

US consumer electronics company Belkin announced last month that it would not extend its sponsorship of the team beyond the 2014 season.

Although final terms have yet to be agreed, Team Belkin manager Richard Plugge told the newspaper that a deal looks ‘promising’.

“We are working on the last details,” Plugge said. “We were already working on this plan before we knew Belkin would end their sponsorship but it became more concrete in June.

“When the contracts have been signed, and it looks very promising, this will be great news for the team and for Dutch cycling.”

A number of state lotteries are already involved in cycling sponsorship, with Team Belkin’s World Tour compatriots Lotto-Belisol and FDJ.fr backed by the Belgian and French national lotteries respectively.
