(US).- Foxwoods Resort Casino and Muss Development have dropped plans to bid on a casino license in the Catskills, according to a person familiar with their plans. The team planned on opening a casino and resort at the old Grossinger's Hotel in Liberty, New York, in Sullivan County.

They ultimately declined to pursue the license due to the possibility of competition from a casino in Orange County, which made securing financing from financial institutions difficult for the Grossinger's project, this person said.

This is the second team from the Catskills to scrap their casino plans, citing potential competition from Orange County as the reason. Earlier this month, Connecticut developer Len Wolman and the Stockbridge-Munsee Community pulled out of their plan to build a casino in the town of Thompson in Sullivan County.

Bids for the four casino licenses that will be awarded in New York state are due June 30. Winners will be announced in the fall.
