(Macao).- The Macau gambling authorities have released figures for May 2014 which show that the island betting mecca delivered revenues below analyst expectations, although the numbers were still impressive in global terms.

Macau casinos took in US$4 billion last month, official figures released today by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau show.

Revenue was up 9.3 percent in May from a year earlier. The total casino gross gaming revenue for the first five months of 2014 was up 15.8 percent from a year earlier.

Annual revenues reached a record US$ 45 billion in 2013, elevating the tiny territory high above rival gaming destinations.
