Macau casinos to fully ban smoking
The report said that specific rooms for smokers will be created on casino premises, but they won’t have any gambling tables whatsoever.
An anti-tobacco law actually was partially implemented back in 2012, but apparently there were thousands upon thousands of violations, as some casinos moved around tables and made other accommodations to cater to high rollers who smoke.
The full implementation will apparently get rid of the problem for good, the government believes. However, a conflicting report said that smoking will still be allowed in VIProoms, where most of Macau’s revenue is said to be generated.
According to QZ.com, mainland China is home to about a third of the world’s smokers. Twenty five percent of China’s population smokes.
Macau’s casinos took in US$45 billion from gamblers in 2013.
