The agreements, which can be found on the Massachusetts Gaming Commission website, include annual payments to the communities and commitments to hire local employees and use and promote local businesses. Wynn proposes a 9,290 sqm casino with a 551-room, five-star hotel along the Mystic River.
Tuesday is the deadline for casino developers in the eastern region to reach so-called "surrounding community" agreements with designated municipalities. There also are "neighboring community" and "nearby community" agreements. Surrounding, neighboring and nearby communities are those located around a casino but not the designated "host community." The communities can qualify for varying degrees of financial or other compensation from the casino because they will be affected.
The announcement comes as the gambling commission is set to hold a public hearing Thursday on Boston's bid to be designated a host community for Wynn's proposed Everett casino and Mohegan Sun's proposed casino in Revere.
