Just last week, Tioga Downs which already operates a racino with electronic gaming machines, announced that it has an agreement in place to operate the Tioga Country Club golf course, if it secures the license.Meanwhile, Traditions already has a golf course and hotel, but not a racino.
Traditions owner Bill Walsh says he's confident that his proposal for the Southern Tier's license will be selected over Tioga Downs and another site closer to Rochester."We knew early on that we had the best location and the property with the most amenities that can complement a casino. We know we have a community here that really needs it and can benefit from it," said Walsh.
Binghamton-based Vista Hospitality Group, which was considering applying for the casino license, had decided against it. Vista had targeted either the Binghamton Plaza or the former STOW Manufacturing site in the city as potential sites for a casino.
Instead, Vista is now supporting the Traditions proposal. Casino applications are due by the end of June. By fall it should be known which proposal is awarded the license.
