(US).- The Associated Press has reported that one state lawmaker is proposing two ideas. One of them would create a single casino in Chicago, while the other would include a handful of other gambling facilities in the state in addition to the Chicago property. The latter would scale down the Chicago project in order to allow for the additional gambling facilities.

“We’ve got to take a different approach and of all the concerns that I’ve heard, filing these two amendments will be the way to free up this logjam that we’re in and take a different approach, scale this proposal down while concentrating on creating jobs and putting money into schools,” Rep. Bob Rita, who is spearheading the efforts, said.

The governor has shot down previous efforts at putting a casino in Chicago. Lawmakers who are trying to push the plan have been working on easing his concerns with previous legislation.

Illinois currently has riverboat casinos, creating a market worth around us$ 1.6 billion annually.

Roadblocks by the governor haven’t been the only examples of how it has been a tough sell to beef up the gambling industry in Illinois. In October of last year, state gaming regulators rejected a plan to allow riverboat casinos to stay open 24/7.

While the brick-and-mortar casino debate still persists, some there are considering the possibility of one day venturing into the online gaming realm.
