(Finland).- Finland’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Policy has proposed the introduction of a special monitoring task force, which would be charged with assessing and recommending better ways to enforce respect for the Nordic country’s monopoly-oriented internet gambling laws.

The set-up of the new group, and the results of its deliberations, is expected to be completed and submitted to cabinet for study by the end of 2014.

Finland’s monopoly-based gambling industry has apparently convinced the European Commission that it meets the requirements for monopolies to operate as laid down by the European Court of Justice.  The Commission announced late last year that it will not further press its infringement action against Finland for acting contrary to EU principles.
