(US).- Online gambling revenues in New Jersey have fallen far short of the USD 160 million full-year expectations envisaged by Governor Chris Christie. New Jersey state Treasurer Andrew Eristoff said during a legislative budget hearing Wednesday that projections in casino tax revenues are now being revised at around USD 34 million, although he said that revenues will continue to improve as more people set up accounts.

"Despite a very promising start, the introduction of online gaming was somewhat delayed and has only just begun to lift overall casino gaming activity," he said. Senator Ray Lesniak, who sponsored the legislation that allowed online gaming, said: "I would even give it a bigger boost if PokerStars qualifies for a license because they're the biggest company out there that has not yet been granted a license." "This business is going to grow, it's going to evolve, and we still have a possibility of hooking up with other states," he added.
