(Spain).- The Spanish Gaming Business Council (CEJUEGO) warned against the legalisation of online slot games in the country, saying it would be opposing the draft legislation to introduce online slots that was prepared by the Directorate General of Online Gaming (DGOJ) and will be debated by the Policy Council.

CEJUEGO claimed that introducing the games would be “enormously damaging to the gaming industry as a whole”.

CEJUEGO counts a number of land-based gaming companies amongst its members, including Codere, CIRSA and Grupo Acrismatic.

Alejandro Landaluce, the director general of CEJUEGO, said: “The approval of the law would create an insurmountable level of unfair competition (for land-based gaming companies)... which are heavily regulated and controlled by the autonomous communities to ensure a clean and safe [environment] for responsible gamblers.”

He added: “The proposed regulation is extremely lax, with no limits on gambling or rewards... or advertising and promotions.”
