Norwegian Minister backs live poker tournaments
Under the proposal any clubs or casinos looking to host tournaments will have to apply for a special license.
In answering a query from Norwegian MY Roy Steffensen, Widvey wrote, “I hope we can have a regulatory framework in place in time for a Norway championship of poker to be held in Norway in 2015.”
She went on to say that there is no need to pass any further laws as “the Gaming Act permits the government to allow tournaments through regulation and therefore it is probably not a matter for Parliament.”
The newly elected government has been considering liberalizing the gambling market which is currently served by state monopolies. Furthermore, politician Erlan Wiborg recently accepted a heads-up challenge match against national poker professional Ola “Odd Oddsen” Amundsgaard as part of a campaign to allow online poker.
