Bad weather hits Pennsylvania slots revenue in January

(US).- The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board regulatory body has cited extreme weather conditions in the US as the reason behind a year-on-year drop in the state’s slots revenue during the month of January. The Board said gross revenue from slot machines at the state’s 12 casinos totalled USD 171.8 million in January, a drop of 8.7% on the USD 188.2 million recorded in the same month last year.
Harrah’s Philadelphia Casino and Racetrack suffered the most out of all the casinos in the state after it experienced a 16.3% year-on-year drop in slot machine revenue during January. The Board said that tax revenue in January of this year totalled us$ 91.7 million.
Kevin O'Toole, executive director of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, said: “It is likely that the amount of revenue generated was negatively impacted by the significant amounts of snow and extreme cold weather that affected all parts of Pennsylvania in January and has continued into February.”
