"We need to develop some stability. I'm hopeful a bill will come from that. It's time to go forward and propose legislation that would do what we are asking to do," explained state senator Andres Ayala.
He added that a decline in revenue from limited gambling in the state is continuing, especially following increased competition from operations in Rhode Island, New York and Massachusetts.
A report issued last week by the state’s Office of Fiscal Analysis and the Office of Legislative Research predicted 7,500 slot machines would generate USD 301 million annually.
There has been a rise in US states looking at ways to increase revenue from allowing the expansion of gaming and online gambling. Last year, New Jersey legalised internet gaming with the licensing of 15 casinos.
