H2 currently values mobile gaming and betting gross win at just under €4.5bn for 2012, or 18% of total interactive gross win, up from USD 7.40 billion in 2010, as smartphone and tablet penetration levels have enabled a new channel to develop into the major growth area for igaming over the past few years.
Online gaming and betting currently accounts for around 8% of all gambling gross win, by 2018, H2 expects the mobile channel alone to represent 5% of all gambling gross win.
In terms of verticals, betting still accounts for more than 75% of mobile gross win, although this is likely to change soon as gaming and lotteries continue to target the platform and more states in the US look at regulating interactive gambling.
However, poker and casino gaming on mobile are still hampered by screen size and device capability and are driven by ‘experience’, whereas betting is driven by ‘convenience’.
Mobile gambling is realising its potential and is more important today than it has ever been. H2’s report covers more data than ever: including extended smartphone penetration by-geography and a bottom up by-product analysis of the leading nations around the world.
