(South Korea).- Competition for licences to run casinos in Yeongjongdo near Incheon International Airport in South Korea is hotting up as the government there considers loosening regulations, the Korea Herald reports.

The newspaper says that in December joint venture partners Caesars Entertainment and Lippo Group of Indonesia renewed their request for permission to build a casino-resort covering 330,000 square metres in Yeongjongdo.

Last week Japan’s Universal Entertainment Corp bought 136 square metres of land there, which unidentified sources told the newspaper might be a step towards a bid for a casino license. Universal Entertainment has plans to build two six-star casino-hotels with 3,000 rooms, a business hotel, a shopping mall and entertainment facilities.
