(South Africa).- Due to be marketed towards ‘sports-mad South Africans’, SunBet currently offers multiple markets on rugby, cricket, soccer, tennis and American sports while negotiations to include horseracing are ongoing. Although it is illegal to wager online in South Africa, an exception has been carved out for sportsbetting with SunBet also featuring betting on competitive non-sporting events such as the Pop Idols reality television programme.

"The sportsbetting industry is in its infancy and offers high growth potential,” said Michael Farr, Corporate Brand and Communications General Director for Sun International. “It seems likely that, in time, online gaming will be legalised in South Africa and we believe this business will position us well for when that happenYogonet.com / Online Casino News
s, both in terms of track record and in understanding our guests’ online preferences.

“Many South Africans would like to bet on their favourite teams or individuals but don’t necessarily gamble in casinos. SunBet gives them the platform to do just that. We will also give customers the option to bet in current pop culture, betting on odds like who will win the 2013 Pop Idols or what colour dress will Charlize wear to the Oscars.”
