Casino owners have mixed opinions on the matter: some say it's the wave of the future, others like Sheldon Adelson say they will stop at nothing to outlaw it.
“Adelson doesn't think it's a good idea. On the other hand, outlawing poker is like the Volstead Act when they outlawed beer: people do it anyway.”
Wynn says he doesn't have a strong feeling one way or the other, but he is keeping a close eye on online gaming. Right now in Nevada there are just two online sites, and they are poker-only. In Delaware there are three gaming sites, and in New Jersey right now there are six.
The governors of Nevada and Delaware are reportedly working on a deal that would allow people in each state to play on websites based in other states, but nothing has been finalized.
So, is this a passing fad or the future of gambling? “I'm not sure”, said Wynn. “Within the state of New Jersey it's legal. It's status in America is much in doubt.”
Wynn says he’s heard from 40 states that have expressed interest in online gaming, including California, Illinois, and New York.
