(India).- The first officially-sanctioned international-standard casino in India – outside the state of Goa – will be at Daman, close to Mumbai, it was announced this week.

Delta Corporation, which owns three offshore floating casinos close to the Goa coast, is to open its casino resort in Daman next year. The resort will cover 10 acres of land and will have 60,000sq.ft of gaming space, the company’s chairman, Jaydev Modi, told a press conference.

The hotel will have 187 rooms and is already constructed. Modi said that Delta now plans to extend its influence into other jurisdictions in the region, including Sikkim, Nepal and Sri Lanka. “We have already acquired property for a casino resort in Sri Lanka and the company is exploring the emerging Sri Lankan gaming market which is responding to tourism since the end of the civil war.”
