Jimena Montoya, Legal Director for MGI, pointed out that the ‘Miss Gaming’ brand is a registered trademark worldwide, including Bulgaria, and that the actions of the companies BEGE EXPO and Visage Model Group amount to a violation of MGI´s trademark rights. These two companies could have done a beauty contest by assigning a different name, but by no means use the Miss Gaming trademark; clearly they have tried to take advantage of the reputation, trajectory and good name of the Miss Gaming International organization, which is neither correct nor legal, argued Montoya.
Miss Gaming International is now taking legal action against the two companies over the matter.
Juan Carlos Gomez, General Manager for MGI, declared that even though it pleases him that other organizations are trying to copy the path that Miss Gaming has accomplished, it is not correct to confuse the gaming industry, using the Miss Gaming trademark illegally. "They have not only taken the name illegally, they have copied almost everything on their webpage, even the voting system that we started for the Miss Gaming International contest in Vegas; all this is a clear act of violation of our trademark rights”.
“The organization has always had as a goal to unify the industry, which is why we don’t understand why these two companies have taken the Miss Gaming trademark without our authorization. As has been widely reported, Miss Gaming is transferring the contest franchise out to several countries, meaning it could have been very easy [for the companies] to contact us and present their project,” he concluded.
