More New York support for casinos
In related news, New Yorkers increasingly favour the November 5 referendum that would permit seven commercial casinos in the US state, according to the latest poll. They support the referendum by 56 to 40 per cent. That compares to 55 to 42 per cent in last month’s survey. As before, support slips 49 to 45 per cent when, instead of reading the ballot language, pollsters are merely asked if New Yorkers favour adding the casinos.
The ballot language has been a point of controversy among those who say it crosses the line and advocates for passage. Still, the plurality favouring the referendum when neutral language was read is still better than the 46-46 tie on the same question last month.
