(Canada).- The Toronto City Council went ahead with a vote Tuesday to kill a casino project proposed for the downtown area that attracted interest from Nevada largest gaming companies.

City Council members voted against the project, despite a move last week by the mayor to take the issue off the table. The special meeting was called by a majority of the council against the objections of the mayor.

The move by Canada’s largest city ends the casino debate. MGM Resorts International, Caesars Entertainment, Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Resorts, all pitched ideas for a hotel-casino and entertainment complex in Toronto.
